- 1960 -

1960 brought a number of changes to the range starting with the purchase of another 40 acres behind the back stop bringing the total to 177 acres.

Below is a picture from a 500 yard match. You can see the 10 targets off in the distance.

In 1960 we had pits for 10 targets. Unlike today with the electronic scoring system, people in the pits needed to mark each shot. Today only the black powder shooters need to do this.

Today we have WiFi, radios, and Internet at the range but back in the 1960's all communications to the pits was by overhead phone lines. To the rignt, Phone line installation was between the pits and 200, 300, 500, and 1000 yard lines. Construction did not follow OSHA or use any powered equipment like we do today. Just a home made ladder and someone like Vern Herr to climb the pole. The helpers from left to right are Chester Snavely, Unknown, Dick Taubert (red hat), and Jim Pregler.

1960 was a busy year and the club even made it into the NRA American Rifleman magazine.
